Basic Blackjack Strategy
Blackjack isn’t purely a game of chance. The outcome depends on your own choices, not just the luck of the draw. Following some basic guidelines will improve your odds of winning. As you become more familiar with the game, and depending on how lucky you feel, you may make different choices but this table shows basic Blackjack strategy that most players follow most of the time.
If you are dealt: | You should: |
17 or more | Regardless of what the dealer has, you’ve got a good hand and you should Stand. |
13 – 16 | Stand if the Dealer has less than 7 showing but Hit if the Dealer has more. |
9, 10 or 11 | Double your bet. Unless the Dealer has a 10 or Ace showing, you have an excellent chance of winning with a 19, 20 or 21. |
8 or less | Hit -- You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain by taking another card. |
A pair of 8s 9s or Aces | Split and play two hands with these good cards. |
A pair of 10s | Quit while you’re ahead and Stand! |
