Gladiator is a 5 reel 25 payline slot machine from Playtech based on the movie Gladiator starring Russell Crowe. It has a two different bonus rounds and a Gamble round that gives you a chance to double your winnings for that spin.

There is another Gladiator slot machine out there but only Playtech’s version features images from the movie starring Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, and Oliver Reed. The reels feature beautiful photos of the characters in the movie.  The mini-film excerpts that play when you hit a big pay-line show Joaquin Phoenix at his best, portraying the fearsome Emperor Commodus. The top prize in this game is 5,000x your line bet. The maximum wager per line is £45 which can win up to £225,000. There are 25 paylines to put your money on so this can be quite a high stakes game.

Double Your Winnings

After every winning spin you can collect your winnings but you also have the option of playing the Gamble feature where you can double your entire winnings from that spin or just risk half of those winnings.  In the Gamble round you’re dealt five cards, four face down and one face up.  Choose one of the four hidden cards and if it turns out to be higher than the card that’s showing you win.

Wild symbol

The Wild symbol (the Gladiator Helmet) can appear only on reels 2, 3 and 4 and stand for any other symbol, except Scatter, to make the best possible winning combination. The Wild symbol does not have a regular win, it only wins when substituting. If three Wilds appear simultaneously in any position on the reels 2, 3 and 4, the Gladiator Bonus round is initiated.

Scatter symbol

The Scatter symbols (the Coliseum) do not have to occur on a particular payline – if there are two or more Scatter symbols in any position on the reels, an additional win is earned. The payout for the Scatter symbols is multiplied by the total bet. If three or more Scatters appear simultaneously on the reels, the Coliseum Bonus round is initiated.

The Gladiator Bonus round

The Gladiator Bonus round is triggered when three Wilds (Gladiator Helmets) appear simultaneously in any position on the reels 2, 3 and 4. In the Gladiator Bonus round, a centered window reveals 9 masks in either gold, silver or bronze, equal to 10, 5 or 2 times the total bet respectively. The Gladiator Bonus round prize equals to the total value of those 9 masks.

The Coliseum Bonus round

The Coliseum Bonus round is triggered when three or more Scatters (Coliseums) appear in any position on the reels. The Coliseum Bonus round includes a grid of four rows and five columns. Starting from the bottom row, the player picks one stone at a time from the rows to win a prize. Stones picked from the first row determine the number of free games. Stones picked from the second row reveal the win multiplier to be used during the free games. Stones picked from the third row reveal an Extra Scatter symbol to be used during the free games. Stones picked from the fourth row reveal an Extra Wild symbol to be used during the free games. Extra Wild can be one of the five theme symbols only. Extra Scatter can be one of the royals symbols or theme symbols except Commodus and Lucilla.

Playing the Gladiator Slot Machine

The object of Gladiator is to obtain winning symbol combinations by spinning the reels.

To play the game:

• A wagering denomination can be chosen by clicking the Click to Change denomination button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.
• Line bets are chosen by clicking Bet per Line. Each click adds a coin to the line bet. When the maximum amount is reached, clicking the button again resets the line bet to one coin.
• Paylines are chosen by clicking Lines to add a payline, or by using the numbered buttons on either side of the reels. Selecting a high payline includes all the lower ones too. For example, selecting payline 6 also activates paylines 1 through 5. Clicking Bet Max activates all paylines with the maximum bet per line and spins the reels.
• Total bet per game round = line bet X active paylines.
• Clicking Spin spins the reels with the current selection of lines and line bets.
• Reels can also be spun using the Auto Start function. Clicking + or – above Auto Start selects the successive number of spins to be enabled. Clicking Auto Start spins the reels. The Auto Start button changes into Stop during the Auto Start mode of reelspin. The Auto Start mode ends when the reels have been spun the number of times determined by the player, or when the player clicks Stop.
• Wins are calculated according to the paytable. Line win = line bet X corresponding multiplier according to the paytable. Scatter win = total bet X corresponding multiplier according to the paytable. The paytable can be accessed via the Info page.
• On a given payline, only the highest win combination pays while simultaneous winnings on different paylines are added up together.
• In case of a winning spin, the Win field displays the accumulating winnings. The win ticker can be stopped by clicking on the Win field.
• A win activates the Gamble button which, when clicked, opens the gamble page. Winnings can be doubled by guessing whether the next card will be red or black. Clicking Collect adds the winnings to the balance and returns to the slot reels.
• Gamble is disabled during the Auto Start function and free spins.
