Types of Blackjack
There are several popular variations of Blackjack at online casinos. The differences are slight but finding the game that’s just right for you may just improve your odds! Basically, there’s Classic Blackjack and a European variation but at some online casinos you’ll also find Atlantic City, Vegas, Spanish, and/or Pontoon versions.
Classic Blackjack
If you’re just starting to play blackjack online, you’re probably best to stick with a classic version of the game. Here are four from different software providers:
European Blackjack
There is no Hole Card in European Blackjack so you have an advantage knowing exactly what the Dealer’s hand is holding. In many casinos, you can only Double if you have 9, 10 or 11 and many don’t allow you to Split after Doubling.
Once you’re comfortable with the classic game, try one of these European versions:
- Cryptologic European Blackjack
- Microgaming European Blackjack
- Playtech European Blackjack
- WagerWorks European Blackjack
Atlantic City Blackjack
Spanish 21
In this version of Blackjack several rules are loosened. For example, you can Double Down on any number of cards. There’s also a bonus payout if you are dealt five or more cards totaling 21 or if you make 21 with a 6-7-8 or three 7s. You win if both you and the Dealer get 21; the tie isn’t a Push. The price you pay for these player advantages is that there are no 10 cards in the deck (although there are face cards).
Pontoon
Pontoon is basically Spanish 21 with no Hole Card.
Vegas Blackjack
You don’t necessarily lose if you go over 21 in this version of Blackjack. If the Dealer Busts as well, you win if your total is less than theirs.
