UK Moms Spending More Time Online

January 28, 2010

A recent survey by Winmonkey shows that stay at home mothers in the UK are spending more time at their computer, on the internet, and less time watching the telly. 25% of the women polled said they spend an average of more than two hours on the internet everyday.  80% said they use it everyday for getting news, shopping and socializing.  Many admitted that they spend much of their time online at social networking sites such as FaceBook.

Analysts say they don’t consider the trend to spend more time online than watching TV to be of concern in any way.  The internet is simply newer technology than TV and, increasingly, the way many people stay informed and connected.

"As with all things, it is about balance," Siobahn Freegard of Netmums told the Sun. "If mums are finding they are spending too long online, or a bit of bingo is turning into more serious gambling, it's worth considering whether they are becoming addicted to the Internet and may well want to talk to someone or seek advice on that."
