- Video Poker Rules
Video poker is based on the classic Five Card Stud poker game but is similar to slot machines when it comes to the luck factor. It challenges the player to gather a neat five-card hand to win the game.
The video interface has a lineup of payouts from the highest to the lowest based on the type of video poker being played. The machine deals the player five cards, and the player has the option to discard one card and pick any number of cards to make it a five card hand again. At this point the player creates a hand which may be a winning hand or losing hand.
Video Poker Rules
Basic video poker rules apply to all kinds of poker games. Generally speaking, it is wiser to play the maximum bets, typically because they carry the highest payouts. For any kind of video poker, a player has to play a minimum of 1 coin to a maximum of 5 coins. Any video poker game pitches the player only against the machine. Unlike traditional poker, there is no dealer and no competition between players. Thus, there are no bluffs to be made or called, no body language to be watched and only the best hand to be played. The only similarity between the two is the ranking of hands.
The best video poker tip is to know the pay tables thoroughly and remember that each game is a fresh game, since the game is against an automated machine. Selecting a machine based on a higher payout for a flush and a full house is another wise move. In video poker an ace is not better than the jack.
The doubling up option is what makes video poker games more interesting. If a player has won a game, the machine automatically displays a ‘double up’ or ‘collect’ option. On selecting a double up option, the machine deals five more cards of which one card faces up. The player has to then select one card, and if the chosen card is higher than the card held open by the machine, the player’s winnings are doubled; if not, the player loses the whole lot.
Rules for Specific Video Poker Games
There are different types of video poker games now available and each game will have a variation in rules. In Jacks or Better, a pair of jacks is the lowest ranking hand; thus the title. Ten’s or better is the same. A player should take time in deciding which cards to discard. Jacks or Better can be played multi handed, and the best part about playing it that way is that the cards held in one game are automatically held in all others, which definitely increases the chances of the player winning. In Deuces wild, all four deuces can be used as substitutes for any cards and a player should never, even by mistake discard a deuce. This makes making a five of a kind hand possible in playing video poker-deuces wild game. The lowest payout for this game is the three of a kind hand.
In Jokers wild, the joker is the wild card which can be substituted for any card. Aces and Faces give high payouts for high four of a kind hand.
